London’s…Erie was “the” place to shop back in the early 20th Century: Christine’s Chronicles

by Christine Lorraine Morgan ~ February 4, 2023

Discovered this gorgeous red velvet hooded cape in a thrift store hanging all by its lonesome in a 1980s thrift store, and have treasured it ever since.

Located in Erie, PA’s bustling downtown during the early- to mid-20th century, “London’s” was where the most affluent ladies shopped for their most impressive clothing. And not only did their garments look superb, they were also built to last, as is evidenced by this stunning cloak.

This full-length red velvet hooded cape was purchased at “London’s … Erie,” and from the looks of it, the garment was most likely produced and sold in the early 20th century.

The cloak’s ornate woven buttons coupled with this hand-sewn tag make it a beautiful reminder of haute couture from the past that originated at “London’s…Erie.”
