This stunning brick Italianate-style residence was built in 1858, three years prior to the Civil War. It is located on Erie’s historic Millionaire’s Row at 338 W. 6th Street.
It was commissioned by Navy surgeon William Wood as a home for his wife, Rose, and their eight children. The widow’s walk atop the structure might have been considered a necessity due to the fact that the family was headed by a member of the U.S. Navy. It probably offered a breathtaking and clear view of the waterfront.
This two-story structure with multiple fireplaces and a spacious family-sized front porch was designed by Dudley and Hawk.
