Once a person walks through that doorway, they have left this century and entered a different dimension of dining. They are in a magical place where they can order a root beer float and a fried baloney sandwich for lunch.
We’re talking about the quaint, bustling, nostalgic Lawrence Park Dinor here, and yes, it is spelled with an “o.” Why? Because some folks around Lawrence Park and Erie County, PA perceive the word “diner” as a person who dines. Thus way back when dinors were being established around town, Erie chose to spell them with an “o” to avoid giving the impression that the place was named after a person who was dining.

The Dinor is housed in one of 1,500 prefabricated “Silk City Diners” around the U.S. It opened its ornate front door in 1948, specializing in pies.
Today, old-fashioned metal-based stools line up against the counter like they’re on the set of a classic black-and-white movie. It has sat in the same spot for the past 78 years, and is a nationally-recognized Historic Place.
According to the Dinor’s website, it is “The only dinor in Pennsylvania on the Historic Register.” And the township where it’s located, Lawrence Park, is also on that same national register, so it’s doubly historic.
Saying that people come from miles around to experience the Dinor is no exaggeration. It has been featured in countless social media posts, magazine articles, and regional publications.

Plus it’s a favorite with locals, this author included. I’m there once or twice a week. Here’s a photo of one my favorite meals, the “Trifecta,” which includes a Greek hot dog, burger and fries. And by the way, Erie’s “Greek” is served differently other parts of the country.
Local “Greek” adds a layer of sauce-marinated ground meat on top of the existing meat in the sandwiches and over the fries, then it’s smothered in cheese, onions are optional.
Now there’s a heaping plate of mouth watering home-cooking if ever there was one, at least imho.

The Dinor’s booth windows give a great view of the Lawrence Park community, considering its center-of-town location. Address is 4019 Main Street. Check out the menu and other delicious details about the Lawrence Park Dinor here:
