Dipson’s Plaza Cinema opened on December 15, 1950 in Millcreek’s West Erie Plaza, with seating for about 1000. The first movie to be shown there was “I’ll Get By,” starring June Haver.

The stylish sign above the marquee gave this movie house from the past a dash of character and an art deco vibe.

In December 1981 Dipson’s was converted into a four-screen theater. It closed in December 2008, and was demolished in 2015.

The Cork 1794 restaurant sits just to the south of that site now.

Dipson’s was located on this concrete pad which is still in place as of the May 6, 2026 writing.
