Remembering the legendary Buddha and Joanie, tattoo artists in Erie, PA: Christine’s Chronicles

by Christine Lorraine Morgan, May 12, 2026

First met the legendary Buddha and Joanie in 1987 when they gave me a shoulder tattoo so I could write about the experience for the Millcreek Sun newspaper.

Then we ended up living in the same suburban neighborhood for a couple of years, from 1988-89 or thereabouts, until I moved into the city.

Our paths crossed again in the 1990s. By then my media career had led me from newspaper journalism to creating and producing TV ads for Fox 66. We got together and came up with some ideas, one of which is included as a youtube link below.

Here are some of my memories of that unique Erie couple, their art, and the commercial I read and produced for that business.

Joanie and Buddha pose for their Millcreek Sun picture.

This is a still frame capture from the :30 TV commercial I wrote, read and produced for Body Art by Buddha and Joanie in the 1990s at Fox 66
